Actress and Singer/Songwriter
Welcome to our first entry for ‘Famous Frogs’, where famous (and in some cases, infamous) French people are metaphorically dissected for your reading pleasure. Today’s frog is Marion Cotillard, an award winning actress and singer/songwriter, who was born in Paris in 1975.
Cotillard is known for roles in such movies as Inception (2010), Midnight in Paris (2011), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), as well as an Academy Award winning performance as Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose (2007), just to name a few. She has also been a spokesperson for the fashion house Dior since 2008, and has worn their designs on too many red carpets to mention.
Did you know that Cotillard is also passionate about social justice and environmental activism? She has been affiliated with Greenpeace since 2005, and even lent her vocals to a cover version of Midnight Oil’s ‘Beds are Burning’ in 2009 for a campaign called TckTckTck, to raise awareness for environmental protection.
